KAMPALA, UGANDA — The Uganda Media Centre has received a truck donated by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), in a move expected to strengthen the institution’s logistical capacity and support the execution of its public information and government communication activities.

The vehicle was officially handed over by Chris Magezi, Acting Director of Defence Public Information at the UPDF, to Allan Kasujja, the Executive Director of the Uganda Media Centre, during a handover ceremony in Kampala.

The donation is expected to provide additional logistical support to the Centre as it continues to coordinate government communication, facilitate media coverage of official activities and disseminate information on government policies, programmes and national events.

Speaking during the handover, Kasujja expressed appreciation to Gen. Kainerugaba for the donation, describing the vehicle as a valuable contribution towards the Centre’s operational responsibilities.

“So, we say thank you very much, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba. It’s going to go a long way in making sure that the important work the Media Centre does is done properly,” Kasujja said.

He noted that the truck would help the institution carry out its mandate more effectively by improving its ability to support activities that require transportation and logistical coordination.

The vehicle is expected to facilitate the movement of personnel, equipment and other operational materials, particularly during government functions, press briefings, field assignments and other activities that require the Centre’s participation outside its offices.

Strengthening Government Communication

The Uganda Media Centre plays a significant role in the government’s communication framework, serving as a platform through which official information is shared with the media and the public.

Its responsibilities include coordinating communication on government programmes, facilitating access to public officials and supporting journalists covering government activities and national events.

Through press conferences, media briefings, official statements and other communication initiatives, the Centre helps provide information on government policies, public programmes and developments across different sectors.

The acquisition of the truck is therefore expected to improve the Centre’s ability to undertake logistical tasks associated with these responsibilities.

For an institution that regularly supports media coverage of government activities, reliable transportation can be an important component of its day-to-day operations. The vehicle is expected to provide additional flexibility in moving equipment and materials required for media engagements and official assignments.

The donation comes at a time when timely access to information and effective communication remain important in keeping the public informed about government activities and national developments.

Kasujja Pledges Responsible Use

During the handover, Kasujja pledged that the Centre would ensure the donated vehicle is put to good use and serves its intended purpose.

He underscored the importance of responsible management of the resource, noting that the truck would be utilised to support the institution’s operations and improve the execution of its responsibilities.

The commitment to proper use and management of the vehicle is expected to ensure that the donation contributes to the Centre’s work over the long term.

For public institutions, logistical resources such as vehicles are essential in supporting field operations, facilitating coordination and enabling staff to perform their duties efficiently.

The truck is expected to provide the Centre with an additional transport resource, helping ease some of the logistical demands associated with its activities.

Magezi Hands Over Vehicle on Behalf of CDF

Chris Magezi, Acting Director of Defence Public Information at the UPDF, represented Gen. Kainerugaba during the handover and officially delivered the vehicle to the Media Centre.

Magezi handed over the truck on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces, marking the transfer of the donated resource to the institution for operational use.

The donation highlights a point of engagement between the military’s public information structures and the government’s broader communication framework, particularly in areas where information dissemination and media coordination are important.

The Uganda Media Centre is expected to integrate the vehicle into its operational activities in line with its logistical requirements.

Supporting Timely Information Dissemination

The donation is expected to contribute to the Centre’s capacity to support government communication activities, particularly those requiring transportation of staff, equipment and other materials.

As government institutions increasingly rely on timely communication to inform citizens about public programmes and services, logistical support can play a role in facilitating the work of communication teams and media personnel.

The truck could assist the Centre in supporting press engagements, field activities and other assignments that require the movement of operational resources.

However, the overall impact of the donation will depend on how effectively the vehicle is deployed, maintained and managed to meet the institution’s operational needs.

The Centre’s pledge to ensure responsible use of the vehicle is therefore an important part of ensuring that the donation delivers its intended benefits.

The Uganda Media Centre is expected to utilise the truck to enhance its logistical capacity and support its ongoing activities, as it continues to facilitate access to official information and coordinate communication on government programmes.

The donation by Gen. Kainerugaba adds to the Centre’s available operational resources and is expected to support its efforts to fulfil its public information mandate.
