KAMPALA.Four people were killed in a fatal crash at Matanga (Ndikuttamadda) along the Masaka-Kampala highway in Masaka City on July 22, 2026, police said.
According to Masaka regional police spokesperson Kasirye Twaha, the crash involved a Fuso box body vehicle, registration UBQ 238Q, and a Mercedes-Benz trailer, registration CGO 9638AF/19 and CGO 6561AA/19. The trailer, driven by Syaunswa Kanyamunyu, who died in the crash, was heading from Masaka to Kampala when it allegedly overtook another vehicle at Matanga hill and collided head-on with the Fuso, which was traveling from Kampala to Masaka.
“Four male adults died, three in the Fuso and one driver of the trailer, while one passenger survived with injuries,” Twaha said.
The injured passenger was taken to Masaka Referral Hospital for treatment, while the bodies were taken to the same hospital mortuary for postmortem. Both vehicles remained at the scene pending towing as police continued inquiries into the cause of the crash, which is suspected to have been caused by careless overtaking.
