Mayiga marks 13 years as Katikkiro of Buganda Kingdom

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has said that throughout the 13 years he has served as Katikkiro, God has guided him, and he thanked the Kabaka for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Buganda Kingdom during this period.

Mayiga made the remarks at Butikkiro in Mengo while hosting several dignitaries he has worked with over the last 13 years as Katikkiro, a milestone that was officially marked yesterday.

The function was attended by princes and princesses, clan leaders, officials from both the central government and the Buganda administration, politicians from different levels, and religious leaders.

“Over these 13 years, I have worked with different people, including kingdom officials, and together we have achieved several development programmes through teamwork with the Kabaka’s subjects,” Mayiga said.

The Katikkiro noted that during his 13 years in office, Buganda has registered several achievements that belong to all the kingdom’s subjects. However, he acknowledged that some goals remain unaccomplished, including the restoration of the federal system, preserving the dignity of the Kabaka’s Lake at Ndeeba, and further developing the Kabaka’s Palace at Mengo, among others.

“There is still a lot of work to be done, but if we continue working together, we shall overcome these challenges,” he said.

Mayiga also urged the Kabaka’s subjects not to lose hope despite the remaining challenges.

He thanked the people of Buganda for the support they have continuously given him over the past 13 years, as well as the staff he has worked with in the kingdom administration.

“I encourage everyone to continue striving for excellence in everything they do,” he added.

Mayiga also appreciated the organisers of the celebration marking his 13 years in office and thanked all the dignitaries who attended the event.
