ENTEBBE — The Mufti of Uganda, His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, has congratulated the newly elected Local Council I (LC I) Village Chairpersons following the nationwide elections held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, which was declared a public holiday.
The congratulatory message was delivered on his behalf by the Second Deputy Mufti, His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, shortly after he cast his vote at Bukasa-Kawuku Village in Entebbe.
Dr. Sheikh Bukenya commended all newly elected village chairpersons across the country and urged them to serve their communities with integrity, fairness, and without discrimination based on tribe, ethnicity, gender, political affiliation, or any other differences. He emphasized that leadership is a trust that should unite communities and promote peaceful coexistence.
“Leadership is a responsibility entrusted to you by the people. Use it to foster unity, justice, and harmony in your communities,” Sheikh Bukenya said.
Although the elections were conducted peacefully in many parts of the country, media reports indicated that in some areas the exercise was disrupted by disputes that turned violent, leaving several people injured.
Meanwhile, the newly elected LC I Chairperson of Bataka Cell in Nabbingo, Wakiso District, Kato Katumba, has expressed gratitude to residents for entrusting him with their votes during the recently concluded elections.
Speaking shortly after his victory, Katumba thanked the people of Bataka Cell for the confidence they placed in him and pledged to serve all residents fairly, regardless of their political affiliation or whom they supported during the election.
“I am deeply honored by the trust that the people of Bataka Cell have placed in me. This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to the entire community. I am committed to working tirelessly to improve the welfare of our people and to promote unity, development, and transparency in leadership,” Katumba said.
In a show of unity and political maturity, Katumba promised to work closely with all the candidates he defeated, noting that every contestant had valuable ideas that could contribute to the development of the community.
He called on residents to put aside political differences and work together for the common good, saying meaningful progress can only be achieved through cooperation and collective effort.
During the gathering, Katumba officially introduced the team he will work with throughout his term and expressed confidence in their ability to provide effective leadership and address the concerns of residents.
He pledged to prioritize community security, sanitation, youth empowerment, and improved communication between local leaders and residents. He also encouraged citizens to participate actively in community meetings and development programs.
Residents who attended the event welcomed the message of unity and expressed optimism that the new leadership would bring positive change and strengthen cooperation within Bataka Cell.
As he begins his tenure, Kato Katumba reaffirmed his commitment to being a leader who listens, serves, and remains accountable to the people who elected him.
