KAMPALA, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has witnessed the signing of a landmark agreement between Uganda Airlines and Boeing for the acquisition of 10 new aircraft, a significant move aimed at expanding Uganda’s aviation capacity and strengthening the country’s global connectivity.

The agreement marks a major milestone in the growth of Uganda’s national carrier and underscores the government’s commitment to transforming the aviation sector into a key driver of economic development.

The fleet expansion will comprise both passenger and cargo aircraft, enabling Uganda Airlines to increase its route network, improve cargo transportation services, and enhance operational efficiency. The new aircraft are expected to boost trade, tourism, and investment by improving access to international markets and facilitating the movement of people and goods.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Museveni welcomed the partnership, noting that a strong national airline is crucial for Uganda’s economic transformation and integration into the global economy.

The acquisition is also expected to position Uganda as a strategic regional aviation hub, strengthening its role in connecting East Africa to major destinations across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Officials said the expanded fleet will support Uganda’s ambitions of increasing exports, attracting more tourists, and creating employment opportunities within the aviation and related sectors.

The agreement with Boeing represents one of the most significant investments in Uganda Airlines since its revival and is expected to enhance the airline’s competitiveness in the regional and international aviation market.

The move comes as Uganda continues to invest in critical infrastructure and transport systems aimed at supporting economic growth and regional integration.
