KAMPALA. The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee- the top decision making organ of the party has endorsed Jacob Oboth- Oboth for Speakership and Thomas Tayebwa as his deputy .
Oboth Oboth is the current Defense Minister while Tayebwa is the incumbent deputy speaker .
This comes days after the outgoing Speaker Anita Annet Among announced she had withdrawn from the race and would support whichever candidate is endorsed by the NRM.Among who only served only one term is currently under investigation over alleged primitive accumulation of wealth , abuse of office and money laundering . Security agencies have in the past days raided various homes of Among and confiscated various items including luxury cars laptops and cash which they say will aid their investigations . Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has also already backed Jinja South East MP Paul Mwiru to face off with NRM flag bearer for speakership . It remains to be seen whether the opposition will wrestle the speaker slot from NRM –which commands majority in the 12th Parliament like it has been the case in the previous parliaments.
