Leaders of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have called on Kampala residents and Ugandans across the country to actively participate in the upcoming Local Council One (LC1) elections, describing the polls as crucial to strengthening community leadership and improving local governance.

Speaking at a NUP press conference held at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala Lord Mayor Eng. Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga urged all eligible voters to turn out in large numbers and elect leaders who will effectively represent and serve their communities.

Balimwezo emphasized that LC1 leaders are the first point of contact in addressing community concerns, resolving local disputes, and making decisions that directly impact residents’ daily lives.

NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya encouraged Ugandans to remain hopeful and united in their pursuit of positive change. He noted that the country’s challenges affect all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation, saying that “no one is safe on a sinking boat.”

Rubongoya also called on citizens to pray for the nation and work together to build a peaceful and prosperous Uganda.

Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, urged NUP leaders and chairpersons across the country to intensify voter sensitization efforts ahead of the LC1 elections and mobilize support for the party’s candidates.

Ssenyonyi further appealed to the government to embrace constructive criticism and consider ideas from people with differing opinions. He said criticism should be viewed as an opportunity to improve governance, stressing that those who speak out do so because they are committed to seeing Uganda become a better country.
