MPIGI .Relatives of slain former Rwandan soldier and musician Robert Kabera have asked police to recover his missing head and bring the killers to book .
Speaking to on Tuesday morning, family members said they wanted answers about the killing of Kabera, popularly known as “Sergeant Robert”, whose headless body was discovered in Luwala Village, Kammengo Sub-county, Mpigi District, on October 17.
“Police needs to help us resolve this murder by looking for our brother’s head and arresting the culprits,” a family member said on condition of anonymity to speak freely.
Another relative questioned why the attackers had taken the head.
“What was the interest in taking his head?” the relative asked.
The family’s appeal comes a day after police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said investigators had not identified any suspects.
“Whether we have any suspects? No, we don’t have. Because if we had any suspects, I would have mentioned it here,” Rusoke told Monday’s police press conference.
One relative urged investigators to look beyond a boda boda rider known as Innocent and establish whether other people were involved.
The relative expressed the belief that the “rider could not have acted alone.”
That assertion has not been established by investigators.
Innocent reportedly accompanied Kabera from Kampala to his home in Luwala on October 16, the evening before his body was discovered.
According to the earlier account, Kabera arrived at about 7pm, greeted his brother, Victor Agaba, and left with the rider for a nearby bar.
He returned later to collect his phone before leaving again.
When Agaba failed to see him the following morning, he checked the house with Kabera’s son but found it closed.
He then visited the bar, initially assuming his brother had spent the night at a lodge.
At about 2pm, the village defence secretary informed Agaba that an unidentified body without a head had been discovered.
He identified his brother from a scar on his right thumb and shoes found nearby.
Kabera’s killing followed earlier reports of threats against him while living in Uganda.
In October 2023, Sserwanga Village LC1 leaders in Kampala’s Lubaga Division wrote to Old Kampala Police Station reporting that three men had attacked him on Rubaga Road before fleeing in a black car without number plates.
“Even if you run to America, we will find you and kill you,” the letter quoted the attackers as saying.
The local leaders asked police to investigate and assist Kabera.
Rusoke did not specify in the response provided what protection, if any, followed those appeals.
No connection has been established between the earlier threats and the killing.
