KAMPALA. Minister of Local Government, Mr Balaam Barugahara , has directed all local governments to officially name every street and road within their jurisdictions by August 30, 2026, saying the exercise is essential for improving service delivery, security and urban management.
In a directive addressed to Local Council V chairpersons, city mayors, division mayors, town council mayors and sub-county chiefs, Barugahara said the instruction followed guidance from the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Adviser on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The minister said proper naming of streets and roads would make it easier to locate places and strengthen emergency response, security operations, urban planning, investment and other government services
