An online journalist has been rushed to a health facility after a van transporting murder suspect Christopher Okello Onyum reportedly lost control and rammed into a group of journalists .
The journalists had gathered outside the court precincts in Ggaba on Wednesday morning.
Information gathered by this publication so far , the van, which was approaching the makeshift court venue in reverse, failed to brake and sped directly toward reporters and camera crews who had assembled to cover the highly anticipated second day of hearing.
The ill-fated van hit at least one journalist, only identified as Ronald Mulwana, working with PL ON TV, an online television, running over him before rolling over his body, in a shocking incident that has left the area in panic and disbelief.
A police officer who was near the scene also survived the crash, although it was not immediately clear whether he sustained injuries.
The injured journalist was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. His condition had not yet been officially communicated by press time.
The mood at the court venue remains tense and sombre as journalists, court officials and members of the public struggle to come to terms with the incident.
Court proceedings in the case against Okello, the prime suspect in the Ggaba daycare killings, had not yet commenced by the time of filing this report.
