Uganda, DRC Reaffirm Commitment to Bilateral Cooperation at 9th Joint Permanent Commission

Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, regional peace, and economic integration following the successful conclusion of the 9th Session of the Uganda–DRC Joint Permanent Commission (JPC).

According to Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the high-level session underscored the growing partnership between the two neighboring countries and highlighted the importance of turning longstanding diplomatic relations into tangible development outcomes for their citizens.

The deliberations brought together officials from both governments who discussed a wide range of strategic areas aimed at enhancing cooperation and improving the welfare of people in the region. Key sectors discussed included security, trade, infrastructure development, energy, transport, agriculture, immigration, and socio-cultural cooperation.

The two countries emphasized the need for closer collaboration in promoting peace and stability, particularly in the Great Lakes region, where regional security remains critical for economic growth and development. Officials noted that continued cooperation in security matters would help strengthen border management and facilitate safer cross-border movement and trade.

The Joint Permanent Commission also highlighted the importance of expanding economic ties through improved infrastructure connectivity, increased trade opportunities, and joint investments in energy and transport projects. Leaders from both sides expressed optimism that stronger cooperation would create new opportunities for businesses and improve livelihoods among border communities.

In addition, the session reaffirmed the commitment of Uganda and the DRC to deepen people-to-people relations through cultural exchanges, improved immigration cooperation, and initiatives that promote mutual understanding between citizens of the two nations.

The successful conclusion of the 9th JPC reflects the growing diplomatic and economic partnership between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with both countries pledging to continue working together to advance regional integration and sustainable development.
