Uganda’s music industry is mourning the death of veteran dancehall and ragga artist Master Parrot, who reportedly passed away following a road accident on the Northern Bypass.
The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment fraternity, with fellow musicians, fans, and friends paying tribute to one of the pioneers of Uganda’s dancehall music scene.
Master Parrot was best known for his hit songs Muliro, Kikompola, and Mama Wabana, which dominated airwaves during the early 2000s. At the height of his career between 2001 and 2008, he was among the most recognizable figures in Uganda’s dancehall and ragga movement, earning a loyal fan base across the country.
The late singer was also one of the foundational members of the Firebase Crew, a music group led by Ugandan musician and opposition leader Bobi Wine. His energetic performances and distinctive style contributed significantly to the growth of Uganda’s urban music industry.
Following the news of his passing, Bobi Wine expressed his grief in a heartfelt tribute shared on social media.
“Just got the terrible news that we’ve lost our brother Master Parrot. Old funny conversations, careless hearty laughters are the painful memories you live with us my friend. Until we meet again,” Bobi Wine wrote.
Many fans remembered Master Parrot for his iconic song Muliro, a track that became one of the defining anthems of Uganda’s dancehall era. Fellow musicians have described him as a talented entertainer whose music helped shape the country’s contemporary music landscape.
As tributes continue to pour in from across Uganda and beyond, many have celebrated Master Parrot’s contribution to the entertainment industry and the memories he created through his music.
Details regarding funeral arrangements had not yet been officially announced by family members at the time of publication.
Master Parrot’s death marks the end of an era for many Ugandans who grew up listening to his music. He leaves behind a legacy of vibrant dancehall hits and a lasting influence on generations of artists who followed in his footsteps.
