BUGIRI. The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential flag bearer, Maj Gen (rtd) Gregory Mugisha Muntu, has pledged to construct as many skilling centres to create employment opportunities for youths.
Gen Mugisha Muntu made the promise while addressing a campaign rally at Busowa Town Council in Bugiri District , saying his government will prioritise constructing skilling centres in every district to boost household incomes.
“In all the 75 districts where I have campaigned, people have consistently raised the issue of unemployment. Therefore, this will be my first priority immediately after being sworn in as President of this country,” he said.
Gen Mugisha also stated that the incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is aware of the challenges affecting citizens but does not address them because he and his family are already well off.
He pledged to ensure an adequate supply of drugs in all government health facilities, construct new hospitals, and recruit more doctors.
“Fellow Ugandans, vote for Mugisha Muntu and you will see real change in this country,” he said.
Gen Mugisha also promised to rebuild Uganda’s economy by sensitising citizens on agriculture, education, and environmental protection.
“We want to address all the needs of the community to ensure they can access quality service delivery,” he said.
However, Gen Mugisha expressed concern over voter bribery by the ruling NRM party, saying that bribing voters during campaigns remains a major challenge.
Ms Amina Kagoya, a resident of Busowa Town Council, urged the incoming president to prioritise employing more midwives at every Health Centre IV to reduce the risk of expectant mothers dying during childbirth.
Mr Stephen Makaire urged presidential hopeful Mugisha Muntu to prioritise agriculture to boost food production in the country and help combat famine and poverty.
“Agriculture is the backbone of this country; therefore, the government should put more effort into it, especially by sensitising communities to grow both food and cash crops, as was done by previous administrations,” he said.
