MTN gives out first school van in digital school fees drive

KAMPALA. MTN Mobile Money Uganda Limited has handed over the first school van under its 2026 Win School Fees with MoMo campaign.

This move is aimed at promoting digital school fees payments and supporting education institutions across the country.

The first beneficiary, Lucky Kids Academy in Bweyogerere, received the van after actively adopting and using MTN MoMo’s school fees payment platform.

The campaign rewards schools that accept school fees through MTN MoMo, while parents who pay digitally stand a chance to win school fees for a full year.

The initiative is designed to encourage schools to adopt digital payment systems and help parents and guardians pay school fees in a safe, convenient and reliable way without handling cash.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Chief Product Officer of MTN MoMo Uganda, Jemima Kariuki, said the campaign is intended to support education through practical and accessible financial solutions.

She noted that education plays a central role in shaping communities and that the campaign is supporting schools embracing digital payments while making it easier for parents to meet their school fees obligations. She said the school van would directly benefit learners and the wider school community.

Kariuki added that parents and guardians can pay school fees using the MoMo App or by dialing 16580# on their phones.

She also said parents can access MoMo school fees loans through the same platform when they need financial support, and every transaction gives them a chance to win school fees for a full year.

The Principal of Lucky Kids Academy, Fatumah Nandawula Batenda, welcomed the initiative and said the van will greatly support students, especially during co-curricular activities and school programmes.

She said the school appreciates MTN MoMo for recognizing institutions that are embracing digital payments and investing in education in a way that has a lasting impact on communities.

The MoMo School Fees solution allows parents to pay school fees without cash while also providing access to school fees loans. For schools, the platform offers a reliable and transparent system for collecting fees, improving reconciliation and enhancing overall efficiency.

The handover of the first school van marks the beginning of a nationwide campaign that will continue to reward both parents and schools that use digital school fees payments.

MTN MoMo says the initiative is part of its broader commitment to empowering families, supporting schools and strengthening access to education through digital financial services.

Parents are encouraged to pay school fees using the MoMo App or by dialing 16580# to participate in the campaign, while schools can register to start collecting school fees via MoMo and qualify for upcoming rewards, including additional school vans.
