Police in Kampala Metropolitan area have arrested a female officer attached to the Child and Family Protection Unit (CFPU) at Kasangati Police Station over alleged scandalous and unprofessional conduct after she reportedly challenged her superiors over the handling of a domestic violence case.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire identified the officer as Corporal Fatina Mukolerwa, who allegedly accused her bosses of mishandling a case involving domestic violence.
Owoyesigyire said Mukolerwa questioned the decision to release Sylvia Arinaitwe on police bond after her arrest in connection with a domestic violence case dating back to 2023 and registered under CRB 70/2024.
According to police, a scuffle reportedly broke out between Arinaitwe and the arresting officer during the arrest. A second confrontation allegedly occurred at the police station, where colleagues restrained the officer.
Police said they later established that children at Arinaitwe’s residence had been left outside and were reportedly unattended during the arrest.
Arinaitwe also alleged that her husband, who is the complainant in the case, was using the dispute to remove her and the children from their marital home and sell the property.
She was subsequently released on police bond to enable her to care for the children as investigations continue.
Owoyesigyire said the circumstances surrounding both Arinaitwe’s arrest and the conduct of the police officer remained under investigation.
“The conduct exhibited in the viral video was considered inappropriate and unprofessional, hence the arrest of the officer for scandalous behavior,” Owoyesigyire saido on Sunday.
Police said officers are required to use established administrative and professional channels to raise concerns about decisions made by commanders rather than using social media to make allegations against colleagues or superiors.
Owoyesigyire urged the public to allow investigations to proceed and cautioned against drawing conclusions based solely on content circulating online.
