A dispute has emerged between National Unity Platform Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and Makerere University Guild President James Churchill Ssentamu over Ssentamu’s party membership status.
Rubongoya asserts that Ssentamu is no longer a member of NUP, citing the party’s constitution, which disqualifies members who run as independents after losing in primaries. In contrast, Ssentamu maintains that he remains a member, emphasizing that he hasn’t been officially suspended from the party.
Ssentamu stated, “I remain a member of NUP, despite running as an independent candidate in the guild elections, and I am still a member of NUP because I have never been suspended from the party.” This disagreement raises questions about party rules and membership interpretation.
