Makerere ,Uganda’s premier university has admitted 19,767 students under the private sponsorship scheme for the 2025/2026 academic year.


Many of the admitted students are going to pursue business and education-related programmes .
According to the official admission list obtained by Newzzone.com, the Bachelor of Business Administration (Evening) programme at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) recorded the highest intake with 899 students. It was closely followed by the same course under the Day programme with 885 admissions.


The Bachelor of Arts with Education attracted 890 students, making it the third most subscribed programme.
Other top programmes by enrollment include Bachelor of Commerce (Day) with 499 students, Bachelor of International Business (Day) with 488, Business Computing (Day) with 446, and BSc Accounting (Day) with 438 students.
Bachelor of Procurement and Supply Chain Management posted 593 admissions under both its Day and Evening sessions, while Travel and Tourism Management (Day) registered 376 students.


Social Sciences (Day) admitted 244 students, International Business (Evening) 255, and Business Statistics (Day) 250.
Additional popular courses included Applied Psychology, Library and Information Science, Human Resource Management, Entrepreneurship, and Marketing—each attracting over 150 students.


The university’s Academic Registrar, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi, confirmed the intake and outlined key dates for the academic calendar.
Orientation for first-year students is scheduled for August 2–8, 2025, with Semester One officially running from August 9 to December 6. Examinations for the semester will take place between November 17 and December 6, followed by a holiday break until January 16, 2026.
Semester Two will commence on January 17 and end on May 16, 2026. The university has designated January 12 to 16 as graduation week for students completing their academic programmes.


“All students are expected to report physically to campus, even though a blended learning approach will be applied,” Prof. Buyinza stated.
The blended model will combine online, distance, and in-person instruction. However, the university emphasized that physical presence remains compulsory throughout the year.

Makerere, Uganda’s oldest and largest public university, continues to attract tens of thousands of applicants annually, particularly for market-driven disciplines in business, technology, and education.
