
Police in Greater Masaka area are investigating circumstances under which a 53-year-old man was attacked by unknown assailants who killed him and made away with his coffee beans .
The deceased identified as George William Bifaki, a prominent coffee trader was a resident of Kikenene village, in Kisekka sub county in Lwengo District.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that assailants who are said to be about five in number, attacked the home of the deceased tying everyone who was at home with ropes before they started taking away sacks of coffee.
Madrine Nabiddo, the wife of Bifaki said at the time of the attack, she was at her workplace in the trading centre where she runs a grocery shop, but she was surprised to return home when the assailants had taken control of the home.
She tried to run away , but the robbers pursued her and they arrested her, also tying her on the rope as they carried away the sacks of coffee and later strangled her husband to death.
The robbery occurred on Wednesday night at about 8;30pm.
Southern Regional Police Spokesperson Twaha Kasirye confirmed the incident saying police investigations into the matter have kicked off.
” The body was recovered from the garage where the coffee was kept, the wife managed to escape and run to police, we have started recording statements from locals which will help police in investigations into the matter” .he added.
Kasirye has however, asked locals that would be with information that can lead to arrest of the robbers to help police so that the culprits can be brought to book.
