
KAMPALA.The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) National Management Committee, under the guidance of His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, officially dedicated funeral prayers for the late His Eminence Sheikh Abdu-Aziz Ibn Abdallah Al-Sheikh, the Grand Mufti of the Royal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The prayers were held shortly after Asr obligatory prayers on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the National Mosque in Old Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, and were attended by a sizeable congregation.
The prayers were led by His Eminence Dr. Sheikh Hafiz Muhammad Harunah Bukenya, the 2nd Deputy Mufti, on behalf of Mufti Mubajje, who is currently on an official visit to the Republic of Turkiye.
In his remarks, Dr. Sheikh Bukenya described the late Sheikh Abdu-Aziz Ibn Abdallah Al-Sheikh as one of the leading Islamic theologians of the contemporary world. “He was very religious, humble, and soft-spoken despite his elevated position as the topmost Islamic cleric,” he noted. He further disclosed that the deceased had known Mufti Mubajje since both assumed high offices in their respective countries in the year 2000, and that they served together as members of the Islamic Fiqh Council, a body of senior Islamic scholars under the Muslim World League (MWL), headquartered in Saudi Arabia.

The Mufti of Uganda has extended heartfelt condolences to His Majesty King Salman Ibn Abdu-Aziz Al-Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Sanctuaries in Makkah and Madinah, Crown Prince Muhammad Ibn Salman, His Excellency Mohammed Bin Khalil Faroudah, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Uganda, the citizens of Saudi Arabia, Muslims worldwide, and the immediate family of the deceased. He supplicated to Allah, praying for mercy upon the late Sheikh’s soul.
Sheikh Abdu-Aziz Ibn Abdallah Al-Sheikh was born in the Holy City of Makkah in 1940. He served as the Grand Mufti and head of the Council of Senior Islamic Scholars, which issues religious edicts (Fatwas). He succeeded the late Sheikh Abdu- Aziz Abdallah Ibn Baaz, the former Grand Mufti.
