KAMPALA.Ugandan opposition leader and former presidential candidate in the January 15 General Election Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine has announced plans to speak at two major universities in the United States next week as part of his ongoing international engagements.
In a message shared on his microblogging platform X on Saturday, the president of the National Unity Platform (NUP) said he will hold discussions with students and faculty at Harvard University and Howard University, focusing on Uganda’s democratic struggle and the future of governance across Africa.
“This coming week, I will be engaging the students and faculty of Harvard and Howard Universities. We shall have conversations about the struggle for democracy in Uganda, and the future of the African continent generally,” he said.
Kyagulanyi is scheduled to speak on Monday, April 27, at the Center for African Studies at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He will then address a second audience on April 28 at Howard University, hosted by the African Studies Graduate Students Association.
“These engagements are part of our broader effort to strengthen solidarity and sharpen the ideas that will define Uganda and Africa’s democratic path,” he added.
Kyagulanyi is currently in the United States, where he has been meeting various groups following his departure from Uganda in March after the January election period.
According to his team, the visit is aimed at raising international awareness about the political situation in Uganda and mobilising support for opposition efforts.
He has also been engaging with Ugandans in the diaspora, urging them to support political change initiatives back home.
Kyagulanyi previously said his departure from Uganda followed a period of heightened tension, during which he claimed his home was under surveillance and his family faced threats.
Despite his international engagements, he has indicated that his stay abroad will be temporary and that he intends to return to Uganda.
The planned university engagements place Kyagulanyi within a broader tradition of African political figures using global academic platforms to articulate domestic political issues and build international networks of support.
