Uganda on Monday welcomed former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn at Entebbe International Airport ahead of the Presidential Swearing-In Ceremony scheduled for 12 May 2026.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Uganda
, the distinguished statesman was officially received by Kabuye Kyofatogabye, in a gesture that highlighted the strong diplomatic relations and growing cooperation between Uganda and Ethiopia.
The Ministry noted that the visit reflects the enduring friendship between the two African nations and underscores their shared commitment to regional solidarity, peace, and integration within the Horn of Africa and the wider East African region.
The arrival of Hailemariam Desalegn comes as Uganda prepares to host several regional and international dignitaries attending the swearing-in ceremony of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following his recent electoral victory.
Uganda and Ethiopia continue to maintain cordial bilateral ties, cooperating in areas including trade, regional security, infrastructure development, and continental integration through regional bodies and the African Union.
