Kampala residents were treated to a breathtaking spectacle on Sunday night as hundreds of illuminated drones transformed the city skyline in celebration of the upcoming 7th inauguration ceremony of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The spectacular presidential drone show, one of the most technologically advanced public displays ever witnessed in Uganda, lit up the skies with synchronized formations, patriotic symbols, and colorful animations that drew crowds across different parts of the capital.

As darkness fell over Kampala, the drones rose into the night sky and formed striking images including the national flag of Uganda, the State House emblem, a portrait outline of President Museveni, and glowing messages celebrating peace, patriotism, and national unity. The display also projected the words “Congratulations President Museveni” and “7th Inauguration Ceremony” against the dark skyline, prompting cheers and applause from excited spectators.

Thousands of residents gathered along major roads, rooftops, and open spaces to witness the rare aerial performance. Many captured videos and photographs on their phones, with clips quickly spreading across social media platforms.

The drone show forms part of a series of activities organized ahead of President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 12 May 2026. The event has attracted several regional leaders, diplomats, and international dignitaries who have already begun arriving in Uganda for the historic occasion.

Security around Kampala and Entebbe has meanwhile been heightened as preparations intensify for the inauguration. Roads leading to key government installations and ceremonial venues have seen increased deployment of security personnel to ensure smooth celebrations.

The drone performance symbolized both celebration and technological progress, reflecting Uganda’s growing embrace of digital innovation in national events. Organizers described the show as a message of unity, stability, and continuity as the country prepares for another presidential term under Museveni’s leadership.

Throughout the evening, the skies above Kampala shimmered with changing colors as the drones moved with precision, creating patterns of stars, cranes, and rotating light formations that captivated audiences for several minutes.

For many city residents, the display marked a memorable moment rarely seen in Uganda’s entertainment and ceremonial landscape.

“This is the first time I have witnessed something like this in Kampala,” said one spectator who had gathered with friends near the city center. “It shows how far technology and national celebrations have evolved.”

The inauguration ceremony is expected to bring together leaders from across Africa and beyond, highlighting Uganda’s diplomatic and regional significance.

As anticipation builds ahead of the swearing-in, monday night’s drone show offered Kampala a glowing preview of the celebrations surrounding President Museveni’s seventh inauguration ceremony.
