KAMPALA. Internal rifts have widened within the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) following the resignation of Kasambya County MP David Kabanda as secretary general from his leadership role in the civic movement.
Announcing his departure on Sunday, June 14, a disgruntled Kabanda took a swipe at fellow members, alleging selfishness and financial greed within the group.
“There are some people in PLU who think that I am the one blocking their chances of getting what they want. Many are there for other interests like money; to con people,” Kabanda stated.
In a swift response today, Monday, June 15, the PLU leader and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, accepted the exit, replacing Kabanda with Fadil Twalla. Gen Muhoozi has ordered an immediate handover of office but insists Kabanda remains a member of PLU central committee. Gen Muhoozi further announced that he had retained his uncle Michael Nuwagira aka Toyota , lawyer Edwin Karugire ,veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda and MP Michael Mawanda as members of PLU central committee. “We achieved what we set out for with previous team. The new challenges that face us need a fresh team .In the next few months I will appoint a new membership of the Central Committee of PLU.”
