Maverick Masaka City Woman MP, Justine Nameere Nsubuga has dramatically switched allegiance ,dumping her close friend Anita Among and backed Jacob Oboth Oboth in the race for Speaker of Parliament.
Nameere said Mr Oboth Oboth is the candidate endorsed by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and she cannot deviate from party position .
Nameere said that as an NRM member, she is obliged to support the party’s official position.
“As an NRM member, I must follow the party line. Jacob Oboth Oboth is the candidate chosen by the party, and we have worked with him for a long time,” Nameere said while speaking to journalists at her home in Kizungu, Masaka City on Sunday, shortly after her release from what she described as “illegal detention,”
The legislator claimed that the circumstances surrounding her arrest were politically motivated and alleged that President Yoweri Museveni intervened after learning about her situation.
“What happened to me was planned. When President Museveni got information about my arrest, he sent people who ensured my release,” she said.
Nameere also accused Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda of masterminding the events surrounding her arrest.
Despite previously being regarded as a close ally of former Speaker Anita Annet Among, Nameere said she could not go against the party’s decision regarding the Speaker race.
“I have been friends with Anita Among, but I cannot go against the party’s decision. However, I ask that Anita Among’s issues be handled fairly and with justice,” she added
The MP also dismissed claims that security personnel conducted a search at her residence.
Her husband, Hamza Kennedy Nsubuga, alleged that those behind the incident are enemies of the NRM, particularly within Masaka City.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Washaki criticized the growing divisions among NRM supporters in Masaka but commended Nameere for remaining calm throughout the ordeal.
Supporters of Nameere thanked President Museveni for intervening in the matter and called on him to further restore unity and order within NRM structures in Masaka City.
