Transport operators across Uganda are set to unlock new income opportunities following a partnership between MTN Group and the Allied Transporters Union to launch a dedicated union bundle.
The initiative, unveiled at Nateete Taxi Park in Kampala, introduces the “Let’s Go” application, a digital platform designed to help transport workers generate income beyond their daily passenger earnings.
Addressing boda boda riders, taxi drivers, bus operators, and truck drivers at the launch, Union Brand Manager Fred Ssenoga described the partnership as the start of a financial transformation within the sector. He said the union aims to leverage its large membership base to create new revenue streams and influence the market for goods and services.
“This is a financial revolution for our sector. We want our members to earn more than they currently do in order to improve their livelihoods,” Ssenoga noted.
Central to the initiative is a specially tailored MTN “union bundle,” through which the union will earn a share of revenue from every bundle purchased by its members. With an estimated 10 million beneficiaries under the union, officials say the model has the potential to significantly scale earnings and economic impact.
Ssenoga added that the partnership reflects a broader strategy to harness the collective strength of transporters and integrate them into a more structured and financially rewarding ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Mawejje Frank, Chairman of the Boda Boda Union, outlined how the application will be implemented, noting that it will simplify access to services and benefits for members while strengthening coordination within the sector.
The initiative highlights a growing trend toward digital and financial inclusion solutions targeting Uganda’s informal workforce, offering transport operators new pathways to increase income and improve their standard of living.
