Museveni Bids Farewell to Outgoing U.S. Ambassador William Popp

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has bid farewell to the outgoing United States Ambassador to Uganda, William W. Popp, commending him for his service and contribution to strengthening relations between Uganda and the United States.

The meeting took place at State Lodge Nakasero on Tuesday, where the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest and cooperation between their respective countries.

In a statement shared on his official social media platforms, President Museveni expressed appreciation for Ambassador Popp’s efforts during his tenure in Uganda, noting that he had played an important role in enhancing the cordial ties between Kampala and Washington.

“I received H.E. William W. Popp, the outgoing Ambassador of the United States to Uganda, at State Lodge Nakasero. I thank Ambassador Popp for his service over the past years and for his contribution to strengthening the cordial relations between Uganda and the United States,” Museveni said.

The President added that their discussions focused on issues of mutual interest and ongoing cooperation between the two nations, which have maintained longstanding diplomatic relations in areas such as trade, health, education, security, and development.

Museveni also wished the outgoing envoy success in his future assignments and endeavors as he concludes his diplomatic mission in Uganda.

Ambassador Popp has served as the United States’ top diplomat in Uganda during a period marked by continued engagement between the two countries on regional security, economic development, public health, and governance issues.

His departure marks the end of a diplomatic posting that saw continued collaboration between Uganda and the United States on a range of bilateral and regional matters.
