Outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner Muhammad Wazir bids farewell to UMSC leadership

KAMPALAThe outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Muhammad Hassan Wazir, has paid a courtesy call on His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, at the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) headquarters in Old Kampala.

The Friday, May 8, 2026 meeting was held as part of the envoy’s farewell engagements ahead of the end of his diplomatic tour of duty in Uganda.

In his remarks, H.E. Muhammad Hassan Wazir expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Mufti and the entire Muslim leadership for the cooperation, hospitality, and Islamic brotherhood extended to him throughout his stay in Uganda.

He commended the cordial relations between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Ugandan Muslim community, describing them as being rooted in shared faith, mutual respect, and commitment to the wellbeing of the Ummah.

On his part, the Mufti expressed profound gratitude to the outgoing High Commissioner for nurturing close ties with the Muslim community and for his humility and dedication during his service in Uganda.

Mufti Mubajje also reflected on the longstanding historical relationship between Uganda and Pakistan in the promotion of Islam. He cited himself as a direct beneficiary of Islamic knowledge acquired from his mentor, the late Sheikh Abdu Haliq Twariq, a Pakistani national who founded Bugembe Islamic Institute where the Mufti pursued his Islamic theological studies at high school level.

The Mufti further praised the role being played by Pakistan in promoting dialogue and mediation efforts in the Iran–USA and Israel conflict, as well as efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.

Mufti Mubajje prayed for the people and leadership of Pakistan, emphasizing that Islam highly honours those who strive to establish peace.“Allah rewards the makers of peace with peace and blessings,” the Mufti noted.

In response, H.E. Wazir thanked the Mufti for his kind words and prayers. He acknowledged that the conflict in the Middle East has persisted for decades and may not be resolved within a short period of time.
However, he affirmed that Pakistan will continue playing a constructive role in promoting lasting peace and understanding, leveraging its good relations with Iran and the United States to contribute positively towards dialogue and reconciliation.
The outgoing envoy also hailed Uganda as a peaceful, beautiful, and fast-developing country, noting that it has become a second home to many Pakistani nationals living and working in different parts of the country.
He pledged to continue promoting Uganda’s positive image wherever he goes and prayed for the continued success of UMSC in fostering unity among Muslims and prosperity for the global Ummah.
