
KAMPALA. A Sino Truck has been vandalized by a moving locomotive which it knocked at Nsambya Level Crossing in Kampala .
The Friday incident involving a locomotive operated by Uganda Railways Corporation and a Sino truck, registration number UBS 344H happened at approximately 12:20 hours.
According to preliminary reports from Uganda Railways Corporation, Locomotive 7325 was en route from the Nalukolongo Railway Workshop to the Kampala Railway Station when the incident occurred. Traffic on both sides of the level crossing had reportedly come to a complete halt in accordance with established safety procedures, with a level crossing guard deployed to control movement as the train approached.
Despite these measures, the driver of the ill-fated Sino truck is alleged to have approached the crossing at high speed and attempted to cross the railway line, disregarding instructions from the level crossing guard. The train hit the truck, damaging the rear section of the locomotive.
Emergency response teams and railway police arrived promptly at the scene. The truck was later towed to the Uganda Railways Police Headquarters for processing and further investigation.
The railway operator described the incident as a result of reckless road user behavior, emphasizing that all safety protocols had been properly observed at the time of the collision. Authorities have reiterated calls for motorists to exercise extreme caution near railway crossings and to comply fully with railway safety instructions.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
