MASAKA. Plainclothes security operatives Friday evening intercepted newly sworn in Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere and took her to unknown destination.
The 8:30pm incident happened near Hotel Brovad in Masaka City a few minutes after the maverick first time legislator made a drive around Masaka City in a convoy with her supporters to celebrate her swearing in as a legislator .
In a video clip which went viral on social media platforms ,a dozen of armed male security operatives are seen arresting the female MP and pushed her into a white Toyota Hiace vehicle commonly known as drone Registration Number UA857AG and sped off to unknown destination.
Southern Regional Police spokesperson Twaha Kasirye said he was not aware of the incident. Nameere ‘s husband Kennedy Nsubuga claimed during the scuffle ,three of their supporters were shot .He further claimed the attack was done by her wife’s political adversaries whom they defeated in the election. But Patriotic League of Uganda(PLU) secretary general who has in the past days exchanged tough words with Nameera on social media over her stance on supporting Speaker Anita Among ,had warned her to tone and back Defence Minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth who is now the official NRM flag bearer for speakership .
In March while meeting ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders in Masaka area President Museveni commended Ms Nameere for insisting on a vote recount after losing the January 15 General Election.
Mr Museveni said there were attempts to rig out Nameere, but her courage pushed her to demand for a recount through which she secured victory.
“When she [Nameere] contested for the Masaka city Woman MP seat, there were attempts to rig the votes but she insisted on a recount, and when the votes were counted again, she won. That shows courage,” the President is quoted in a statement issued by the State House
On February 1 , Masaka Chief Magistrate Mr Abert Asiimwe controversially declared Ms Nameere ,the winner of the hotly contested Masaka City Woman MP seat after a tense three-day recount exercise, overturning the Electoral Commission’s earlier declaration of Ms Rose Nalubowa of opposition National Unity Platform(NUP) as the duly elected MP.
According to results from the recount, Nameere scored 25,502 votes against Ms Nalubowa’s 23,176 votes, indicating a margin of 2,326 votes.
However, on January 16, 2026, the Masaka City returning officer Ahmed Nadduli Musisi had earlier declared Ms Nalubowa the winning candidate, having obtained 25,443 votes compared to 20,324 votes for Ms Nameere , representing a difference of 5,119 votes .Ms Nalubowa has since filed an election petition at Masaka High Court challenging Nameere’s win saying she was robbed of her victory.
