His passing was confirmed on Friday by the institution in a brief statement that expressed deep sorrow at the loss of its founder and long-serving leader.
“It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved director, Mr. Kizito Mukalazi . We are united in grief yet grateful for a legacy and care lives on,” the statement read.
The school did not immediately disclose the cause of death.
Details regarding the vigil, requiem mass, and burial arrangements are expected to be communicated later, according to the institution.
Mukalazi, who founded Hormisdallen Schools on February 12, 1986, was widely regarded as one of the pioneers of private primary education in Uganda.
Under his leadership, the institution expanded from a single establishment into a network of campuses, including Kyebando, Gayaza, Kamwokya, and Kiteezi.
Over the years, Hormisdallen Schools built a strong academic reputation, particularly in the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), where it has consistently registered notable performance.
The schools are also known for emphasising a holistic education model that blends classroom learning with co-curricular activities, including sports and leadership development.
Beyond academics, Mukalazi was actively involved in community and youth development initiatives, supporting programmes that linked education with discipline-building and sports engagement.
He maintained a long-standing partnership of over a decade with URA Football Club, which has used the Gayaza campus as a training base.
Following news of his death, tributes began pouring in from former students, parents, and education stakeholders, many describing him as a dedicated educator and mentor whose influence extended far beyond the classroom.
They said his legacy would continue through the generations of learners shaped under his leadership and the institutions he built over nearly four decades.
