ENTEBBE — Police have arrested three men accused of posing as law enforcement officers and targeting foreign nationals in Entebbe Municipality for alleged robbery and extortion.
The suspects were arrested on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after they allegedly entered an apartment in Division A, Entebbe, and confronted a foreign investor.
According to preliminary police findings, the suspects were dressed in civilian clothing but allegedly identified themselves as police officers conducting official duties. They reportedly demanded the investor’s passport and money.
Their operation was reportedly disrupted after an employee at the apartment became suspicious and alerted the Counter-Terrorism Tourism Unit.
Police officers responded to the scene and arrested the three suspects before they could leave.
During a search, police reportedly recovered two suspected forged police warrant cards, which investigators believe may have been used to create the impression that the suspects were genuine security officers.
The suspects have been identified as Osire John Pius, Girengero Pius and Emogu Julius. They are being held at Entebbe Police Station as investigations continue.
Suspects linked to other incidents
Police said preliminary inquiries have connected the suspects to at least two other alleged robbery incidents involving foreign nationals in Entebbe.
Investigators suspect the trio robbed tourists in Manyago approximately two weeks before their arrest and allegedly targeted Indian nationals in Kitooro a week later.
Police believe the suspects may have deliberately selected foreign nationals and tourist-frequented areas, using suspected forged security identification documents to gain access to their victims.
Investigators allege that after presenting themselves as officers on official duty, the suspects used the authority associated with police to demand valuables or money from their targets.
Police are now investigating whether the suspects were operating alone or as part of a wider network and whether additional victims may have been affected.
The suspects remain in custody pending further investigations and will be processed in accordance with the law.
