Traditional events managers have been urged to uphold the cultural value and dignity of traditional ceremonies and avoid turning such occasions into comedy and entertainment spectacles.
The call was made by the Head of Clans in the Buganda Kingdom, Omutaka Augustine Kizito Mutumba Namwama, during his closing remarks at a two-day retreat for events managers held at Bulange, Mengo in Kampala.
Omutaka Mutumba cautioned traditional events managers against trivializing cultural functions, emphasizing that traditional ceremonies should be handled with respect and professionalism while preserving their cultural significance. He encouraged organizers to focus on adding value to traditional services rather than turning ceremonies into comic performances.
He also revealed plans for Bataka (clan leaders) to train funeral service managers on the proper handling of traditional funerals and burial rites in line with cultural norms and practices.

The Chairperson of Abalungamya Bokumikolo United Associations Ltd, Kajja Ismail, said more than 30 events managers participated in the training. According to him, the retreat equipped participants with skills on managing traditional functions across different cultural settings, including among the Bamadaba, Banyankole, Basiga, and other communities.
In a related message, Omutaka Mutumba also discouraged excessive excitement and inappropriate conduct during traditional functions, particularly among entertainers and artists. He noted that over-dancing and exaggerated performances at cultural events can become embarrassing, especially to elders attending the ceremonies.
He called upon all stakeholders in the traditional events industry to promote discipline, respect, and cultural authenticity during ceremonies.
