Consul General of Uganda in Guangzhou Ambassador Juju Nsababera has expressed gratitude and excitement after being honoured with the prestigious Tooro cultural Empaako name “Adyeri” during the ongoing Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo 2026.
Sharing her joy on social media, Juju described the recognition as a special cultural moment that she will always carry with pride.
“Empaako ya we? Mwebare muno Tooro,” she posted, thanking the people of Tooro Kingdom for warmly embracing her into one of Uganda’s most respected cultural traditions.
According to Juju, receiving the Empaako “Adyeri” was more than just a ceremonial naming. In Tooro culture, Adyeri refers to a person who is friendly, affectionate, and possesses a larger-than-life heart. The Empaako naming system is deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the people of Tooro Kingdom and is used as a symbol of affection, respect, honour, and social connection.

“At POATE2026 I was honoured with something I will carry — the Empaako of Adyeri,” she wrote.
Empaako names are an important part of cultural heritage in western Uganda, especially among the people of Tooro and Bunyoro. The tradition promotes unity, mutual respect, and strong social bonds within communities.
Juju Nsababera’s recognition comes at a time when cultural tourism and heritage promotion are gaining greater attention during the tourism expo, which brings together tourism stakeholders, travel enthusiasts, investors, and cultural leaders from across the world.
She concluded her message by hinting at an upcoming visit to the scenic Tooro region, saying: “Adyeri is coming to Tooro very soon.”
The colourful recognition has since attracted admiration from many of her followers and cultural enthusiasts, with many praising the continued promotion of Uganda’s cultural identity through tourism and public engagement.
End.
