Four suspects liked to the death of Uganda Rugby player Sydney Gongodyo have been presented before the Kampala City Hall court, charged with murder and remanded to Luzira prison.
The suspects are , 39 year old boda-boda rider of Nsimbi Ziwome in Nakawa- Mugwisa Obed , Eli Mondoni , a delivery agent with medicinal pharmacy and a resident of Luzira port Bell, Joseph Owino ; a private security guard and Kabugo Henry ; also a boda-rider of Bukoto-Old Kira Road in Nakawa Division.
Prosecution states that the 4 on 5th/ June at Upper Naguru East Road in Kampala district with Malice afore thought unlawfully caused the death of Sydney Gongondyo Gabi.
The 4 were recorded in a viral video attacking 27 year old Gongodyo after suspecting him of snatching a ladies bag .
The suspects allegedly attacked Gongodyo with sticks and solid blocks beating him to pulp. Gongodyo was pronounced dead by a hospital afterwards.
The suspects have been however prevented by the presiding magistrate Edgar Karakire to plead ot the capital offence of murder , advising that they will do so before the Highcourt after committal.
The suspects will for the mean time be appearing for mention at City Hall to enable police wind up with its investigations and also arrest other suspects that are reportedly atlarge as reported by state prosecutor Grace Akite.
The suspects will be brought back to court on the 23rd / June .
