Uganda’s political landscape witnessed a historic transition after Gen. Moses Ali, one of the country’s longest-serving ministers and a towering figure in Uganda’s post-independence politics, was dropped from the new cabinet lineup, ending decades of service at the center of government.
The veteran politician and former Second Deputy Prime Minister has for years remained one of the most recognizable faces in successive Ugandan governments, serving under different administrations and holding several influential ministerial portfolios. Gen. Moses Ali, who has represented Adjumani West County in Parliament for many years, played a significant role in Uganda’s political and security affairs dating back to the 1970s. His political career spans military leadership, rebellion, peace negotiations, and eventual integration into mainstream government. Since joining President Yoweri Museveni’s government, Gen. Moses Ali served in various ministerial positions, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs.
The latest developments, however, have ushered in a new chapter for the Ali family after his son, Siraj Musa Ali, was appointed to cabinet, signaling what many political observers view as a generational transition in leadership.
Siraj Musa Ali’s appointment introduces a younger face into government and positions him among the emerging political figures expected to shape Uganda’s future governance agenda. His elevation has already attracted attention, especially because it comes at a time when his father exits active cabinet leadership after decades of service.
Political analysts say the development reflects changing dynamics within Uganda’s political establishment, where a number of veteran politicians are gradually making way for younger leaders.
Supporters of Gen. Moses Ali have praised his contribution to national stability and public service, describing him as a seasoned statesman whose political experience helped shape many government policies over the years.
Across social media, Ugandans expressed mixed reactions to the cabinet changes, with many paying tribute to Gen. Moses Ali’s long political journey while others welcomed the entry of younger leaders into government.
For many in West Nile and across Uganda, Gen. Moses Ali remains a historic figure whose name has been deeply embedded in the country’s political history for decades. His departure from cabinet closes a significant chapter in Uganda’s leadership story, even as the appointment of his son opens another.
