KAMPALA. President Museveni has celebrated the marriage of his granddaughter, Sasi Karugire, describing it as a personal milestone and a testament to faith, following her traditional Kuhingira ceremony held over the weekend.
Museveni reflected on family, faith, and Uganda’s history, saying he was glad seeing Sasi, the daughter of Natasha Museveni Karugire and Edwin Karugire, getting married.

“I am grateful to God for blessing me and Maama Janet with a family, and for enabling us to have children even during very challenging times when Uganda was in turmoil,” Museveni said.
“I am thankful to have lived to see my children grow up, start their own families, and now I am grateful to God to see my grandchild — Sasi Karugire — getting married
The President, who this past Saturday attended the ceremony alongside close family members, framed the moment as both personal and symbolic, linking it to a broader message of perseverance and faith.

“It teaches me that when you do God’s work, He will do yours,” he added.

The kuhingira, a key cultural rite particularly among western Ugandan communities, marks the formal introduction of a bride to her fiancé’s family and is often one of the most significant steps before a wedding.
Images from the event circulating online show a ceremony rich in cultural symbolism, with participants dressed in traditional Ankole attire, alongside a gathering of family and invited guests.
The development offers a rare glimpse into the private life of Uganda’s First Family, while also highlighting the continued importance of traditional marriage customs among the country’s political elite.
The ceremony is expected to be followed by further customary and religious celebrations in the lead-up to the official wedding.
